The dirt on the cover looks very consistent..,even under the red cross,seen through the hole in the cross..
The white side is dirty while the camo side is clean.
This indicates the white side was on top most of the time IMO.
There's a lot of rust on the white cloth from the rim of the helmet ,which indicates it must've been the other way around..
Funny IMO.

Greetings Forum: "Thank you "Chris for helping me post these pics... I really appreciate it. Just a brief history and description. This cover is ORIGINAL to the helmet posted in the pics. I removed the cover to show the identical rust pattern on the helmet to the cover. I lightly cleaned the surface oxidation off the helmet so it would not deteriorate any further. I acquired this helmet and cover from an antique dealer 10 years ago who bought it from the deceased veterans widow .....he paid $10.00 ...I paid more. It was stored in a footlocker and remained there until it was sold to me. After seeing the other splinter pattern cover with a sewn red cross, I guess this must have been a practice to utilize whatever they had. Thank you to all who responded in regards to my inability to register as an association member.All the best

I like it!
Probably one of the hardest things to find is any helmet with a period applied Splinter Cover, let alone the red cross addition . Zeke thats a top shelf piece and I would have something like this in my collection.

An original Army cover is very rare, one with the red cross sewn on........man great piece.
I think its so neat that two of these have shown up in the last month.
