Sorry no pix but saw an m40, dark gray smooth paint, normal german lining. Dealer said it was 'spanish civil war,' but it isn't correct shape and lacks the spanish insignia or holes for it holes on front.
Strange features include:
-a wierd metal 'octopus' ribbing inside the dome under the lining -resembles what i think i saw here on the o u t s i d e of maybe civil style late luftschutz or foreign auxiliary helems
- odd bright-metal 'swivel bales' for the (non german-looking) c'strap, attached not to the lining assby. Per german, but to the inner r i m
- helm has a batch # but i didnt check for maker mark
- rivets for lining all look correctly flush
easy to think this is somehow humped-up, but looks all of a piece for whatever that's worth
