The liner is in really tight. I have made some pictures to show what I mean. The rivets show no signs of having been taken out. Also the color of the rivets have the exact same color as the rest of the helmet exterior. Pretty hard to take good pictures of the inside rivets, but I tried my best. Might be its a late produced M40 and thats why the liner is dated 43?

From your pics, i can tell you that the rivets have been rebend at some point for sure. Not as they were when they left the factory. not the expected curvature...
I never said the rivets were not original to the helmet...i believe they are OK
You can not find a late "post august 1943" liner in an EF M40 shell, that makes no sense from my point of view.
you will find earlier dated liner in EF M42....
But that is just my opinion...

The liner should have been replaced later.....post war i guess. That is how i see your helmet...not 100% correct from my point of view.
