I'll see if I can find a date on the liner band, as that is the later type as well, so if done the before the late '39 order I might still be ok.

I may be wrong, but I'm a little skeptical about the situation with the tri-color on this helmet.

This helmet has a steel band with rounded steel bales. My understanding is that production of these began in 1940. The Luftwaffe ordered that application of the tri-color be ceased on 12 June 1940. Now I don't know the exact date the steel bale liners began production, but that would mean this liner would have to have been introduced, distributed, and installed in lieu of a surplus aluminum square bale liner prior to that date. I know that's assuming the factory complied with the guidance, but that's a lot of planets to line up for this.

I for one do not recall ever handling a factory refurbished helmet with this combination of insignia and liner. After another look - I'm not 100% comfortable with the leather on that liner. It looks like it's been artificially aged with linseed oil or something. Notice the inconsistent heavy "burning" or staining that goes over the leather where it folds over the band.

                      Just my opinion.

I'll try and get some more pics of the liner/band but to me that was just poor attic storage, why overly age a liner on a otherwise minty helmet?

It came from a picker in Northern WI along with a nice 4 x 6 Kreigsflag. I will see if I can get "The rest of the story" from him.
