Chinstrap with 11 holes - is this correct?

    Hello gentlemen,

Because of my recent helmet addition with 12 hole chinstrap I decided to look a bit more closely at my older helmets again. I noticed my M40 Quist has a chinstrap with just 11 holes. Back then the helmet was considered a nice combat used one with replaced drawstring. But back in the day I was not aware of the amount of holes in the chinstrap so I never paid attention to that. Now of course the question is raised: were there chinstraps with only 11 holes? It doesn't look like the end has been shortened and when it comes to age and wear the strap matched the helmet and liner perfectly. I hope these pics will of help.

Thanks a lot for clearing this up for me!!

Most original German helmet chin straps have 13 holes though I know some were made with 12 holes.

So 11 holes is a no go? It looks unmessed and has the same age and wear and tear as the rest of the helmet.

That chinstrap looks perfectly original. About of the 11 holes, IMO, it could be a mistake in the production process ...

Cool, I'm a Mayhem fan as well. Even had the honour to join as roadie on a mini-tour many years ago

Glad to hear the chinstrap is ok, thanks!!

                    Thanks Bigdavemac!

The chinstrap is unmarked. Or at least the leather is in such condition that a marking is not visible anymore.

Indeed. I have a helmet with chinstrap which has several holes still with the leather inside of them. Never been punched out or removed by the wearer.

                          Regards Mark.

When thinking about it it does make sense actually. Thousands and thousands of helmets and chinstraps were produced so the occasional flaw is more than likely. No company is able to produce without an occasional production error here or there.

Exactly I think we should look closely at each chinstrap and judge them on their merits as to their age and condition etc rather than the standard specifications.

                              Regards Mark.
