    M40 winter camo for review

Got this helmet through a friend, He had gotten a small haul of helmets from a depot where two were painted white. He kept one and I bought the other. His helmet has some green lines on top of the white paint, and mine has some residue of green in some places. There is a name on the skirt written in the same white sturdy paint as the shell. The paint is very smooth and seems lead-based. Its a bit rusted but it does not seem bad to me.

Two shades on the inside of the helmet, a dark grey and army green.

    Appreciate any input.

Including this page from Brian Ice`s lot number book.

Apparently a helmet close to the lot mine came from was sent to the eastern front, and the helmet with my lot nr is listed as SS.

              How sure can one be?

Okay, I will give you my impressions regarding it.
I see postwar paint and toolmarks, an attempt at randomness with these strikes.
I could be, and hope, that I am wrong but this is my take on it.
It just doesn't seem like legitimate wartime wear and tear.

How sure can one be? That is an excellent question. Regarding this helmet, it is impossible to be sure. IMO. I see good things and I see bad.

Thanks for the feedback. The seller stated that it has most likely had a layer of post war paint at one point. That may be the reason for toolmarks and remaining color.
