Looks like the sweatband has been modified and the condition is a little rough, but appears to be an original....Bodes

Original helmet & insignia, badly damaged obviously. The sweatband has been modified (maybe post war) to sit higher on the head and to create an air pocket between the head & helmet. Is the original sweatband still intact with this other material covering it ? Would like to see the maker mark if so ? Or is the original sweatband removed & replaced ? Would really like to see more photos of the modified sweatband if possible ? Never seen one with this variation before.
