Here is an SS Helmet that I picked up in Berlin, it is a SD type and is marked 164 over 2894 on inside at the back of the rim and looks like "Mader Fr" written in ink on the liner. The decal is reflective (my camera doesn't show it even when I took it out side) and all the corners are square. The liner is marked B58 underneath.

Hello z06berlin,
I don't think that this is an original CA Pocher "1st pattern SS" decal. To me it appears that the runes do not display any kind of uniformity in shape. The left rune looks different from the right rune and visa versa. Granted the photo can be distorted based on the angle of the camera, but to illustrate my point I have used a paint program to outline the rune on the left side and then duplicated it and placed the duplicate over the right side to show how much difference there appears to be.
Metallic content in the decal is no longer a guarantee of authenticity either so I wouldn't base my opinion on that. As for the corners being square... there are many makers of fake decals today and some of those decals have square corners too.
Also I don't feel that the wear of the liner reflects the outer shell condition or the condition of the chin strap.
Another red flag I think you will hear voiced is that the black outline of the shield is too thick for this style decal.
Remember, this is just my opinion, but I think others will support my conclusions.Attached FilesLast edited by herrgeezer; 01-23-2005, 03:25 AM.

David, thank you for your comments.
I agree with you on the outline of the runes, but the black line you refer to is not paint but where I think the shield was applied and then shrank once dried. I did some further checking on the chin strap and it has a number on it: RB Nr.0/0390/0204.
