What fanatastic research! This is what it is all about.
Many thanks JL for your hard work and for sharing this with the forum.

If this isn't a "distinguished contribution" I don't know what is.

            Ditto!

This is what collecting "SHOULD" be about.... Understanding the history and the story behind the item, brings history close and makes it "alive".

            A tremendous job! Well done!!!

              Just a fantastic thread.

May I ask how these came into your possession?

Thanks again for all the positive comments guys, as I had the feeling lately that activity on the forum has been decreasing, and that interest is shifting more and more from history to money/investment.

"May I ask how these came into your possession? "

I am the person who found these helmets.

There is a full chapter of over 50 pages about la Roquette in my book for those interested to know more, with quite a lot of similar examples of linking ground dug items to their actual stories. There is also one chapter about the Villeneuve grave (for those who have not seen the thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=194678 )

Truly a noble endeavor. It brings all of us out of a twilight zone of sorts and into the sobering reality attached to the compelling memorabilia we all enjoy collecting. Thanks for the top notch presentation and for sharing your passion.

I am bringing up this old thread as there has been another recent and very gratifying chapter in the la Roquette story, I have posted it here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=914746
