Is This The Only One Out There? M35 DD SS ET60 #2827

This little guy is a very early M35 DD SS with CA Pocher decals. What makes this one really interesting is that it is a size 60 and the only one I have ever seen in this size. The shell is a ET60 (Serifed Typeface) with a very early lot number of 2827. This would make it an early to mid 1936 manufactured helmet (one of the earliest produced M35 DD SS helmets). The aluminum liner band is dated 1931. Unfortunately, the leather liner is no longer present . The liner band is completely untouched and has never been out of the helmet. I believe the inner liner band is a size 53 but that stamp is very faint. There was a thread I found on the forum here from many years ago which asked about the existence of these SS size 60s so I believe this helmet should confirm their existence. Hope you guys enjoy. (Chinstrap was added for the photo shoot) -Jeremy

As we discussed offline, this has got to be the only one, at least the only one I've ever seen and believed. Great pickup Jeremy. Damn crying shame about the liner.

I think all branches had helmets made and ordered in the full spectrum of sizes.
Only makes sense. That's why we find clothing, shoes, hats ect. In mint shape at the uber ends of that spectrum as they were never issued and were overstock.
                            Same thing happens today.

This helmet looks interesting and no one seems to have pointed it out.

I think its a re-decal. Maybe starting off as a Heer lid ?

Its clearly been overpainted and doesn't have the typical apple green ET paint and the decals were applied over the overpaint. Its a brush overpaint as the brush stokes are clearly seen.

Most police M35's are re-decaled Heer lids in the very odd size ends of the size spectrum.

Thanks guys for all the feedback so far on this one.

I will have to take a closer look but my impression is that what looks like brush strokes are some kind of wear patterns as you only see them in certain areas, not all over. I also get the impression that the factory paint on the exterior is just very toned. These of course are just my first impressions and I will have to take a closer look at what you have mentioned. I also don't see any traces of decals beneath these; from my experience on re-decaled helmets there is usually clear evidence of a decal beneath the top one or in some instances multiple layers. On the SS rune decal the exposed area is just the decal backing material showing where the pulver has flaked off.
