battleship grey M40 Helmet - Kriegsmarine or perhaps Coastal Artillery?

Hello all,

This helmet is painted grey but I think I see green under this layer. This would mean the lid started as a Heer helmet and not Kriegsmarine, correct? What would this combination suggest? Was it put into Naval service, or perhaps Coastal Artillery?
