One thing I though you guys would like to know about this helmet. I had sent pics to two knowledgeable and respected collectors. And no, I did not include close ups of the decal. Anyway, we agreed that the liner looked a little odd. We know that the Eastern European copies have green or blue felt used in the liner. What helped us believe it was original is it has a grey felt lining. It is a little darker than normal but they are getting better. Secondly, the pig skin liner feels a bit thicker than normal. I guess what I am trying to say it, be careful!! They are improving these every day!

    Happy New Years!

      Hi Everyone again!

I have had a few conflicting opinions from respected people on this helmet. I think this would be a great helmet to discuss in detail before we give it thumbs down or up. I think we can all learn from this one for better or worse!

      Thanks!

Well...here is the fake decal that seems to match the one on your helmet. We can compare. Aside from that, the liner is (IMO) artificially aged...it has that "stuffed into the shell" look that is always a big red flag for me. It's hard to describe, but an original liner on a helmet like this just looks different. I also don't like the camo finish and wear. BUT, if the decal is fake, the whole helmet is bad anyway.

          Hi Bob,

You know what i think about the helmet and the decal . If the decal is wrong .....
If you have a different opinion , it's because some like the decal ?
If i'm right it can only be given by those who trust in an already discussed decal (para) .If it's the case it could take many threads and i wish you good luck

          Best, Francis

          And happy new year

            Bob that helmet is bad.
The decal is a reproduction, which automaticly means it was in the hands of someone shady at one time. ROBB picked up on a good point, the chickenwire should not be "fused" together at the twist and where it joins the generic wire. Even chickenwire that has recieved a coating doesnt look this way. That was a automatic red flag to me, regardless of the decal. Add the decal and it's a no-brainer.
The inside lacks honesty to which everyone thus far has mentioned. That alone is the kiss of death as well..
Sorry my opinions are not favorable but it's not fair to a rare original.

                        Only one word :

                        Grimesnil.

(Here, we had a king who said to one of his soldiers : "Souviens-toi du vase de Soissons !" ; one day I will maybe tell you : "Souviens-toi du casque de Grimesnil !")

I would be curious to know who the knowledgable collectors are who blessed this helmet as stated, and why they like the camo and the wire.....not even going to worry about the decal.

I think I know this helmet. I could be mistaken, so I apologize if I am wrong. It was at Union in September, and then again at the Max.

Some of you guys are really sharp on the decals ...something I am learning more about, never really had to worry about them in the past.

Ah, the good ol'days, with no worries at all...

Yes, if I don't make a mistake, this very decal made a never ending thread a few months back...

In Internet images, Luftwaffe decals are probably the most difficult to disect. This decal looks to be resting on the surface as would a recently applied dry-transfer.

All I can say is that it is good that these forums are around. I am sure this helmet would fool many unsuspecting/less knowledgeable collectors,it looks very well done.
