Right Darryl, blame me for throwing an unintended monkey wrench into the equation. In comparing this decal to ET and NS I saw some similaries...that's why I referred to it as a hybrid. Sorry for the confusion, this decal wants to be an ET.

This decal seems to be the same style as the ones from germanhelmetcollectors.com, that artist who tried to rip off some people and who was eventually banned from the other forum.

        All the best,

        Cees

These helmet "DaVinci's" all have the new Hicks book and will be working overtime to put their "museum grade SS rubdowns" on the proper shell. Read it and weep guys this is just the beginning.

            Robert,

No problem. You are right though...this is an ET wannabe decal. If the source is indeed E.D. (aka steelhelmet) then it's something to steer well clear of. The ET and NS/SE styles do look similar but in reality are quite different.

Francesco...don't apologize, your English is very good. The "champagne" term actually refers to the colour of the decal.

As a general comment, I don't believe the "end is near". It just means we have to be more careful about what we reveal on an open forum like this one. I firmly believe that an in-hand inspection will betray all the fakes made today.

I agree wholeheartedly. While I understand the purpose of reference books are to help collectors, they help the forgers as well. In the end, collectors stand to lose more as forgers get one step closer to reproducing the perfect item.

Darryl, don't you agree that once the forger gets his hands on the book, basically whatever advantage we have is gone?

                Hello everyone,
This area of collecting is surely more twisted than I feared. This helmet is listed on eBay, by a seller with only one (1) feedback!!
                Here is the link;

Are you guys sure this is copy?
Thank you for all of your comments,

                  Curtiss,

Be very careful. That appears to be a pen-name for someone else who resides in the same general location in the US. There are a lot of conniving scoundrels lurking the bowels of eBay.

                    Well,

I'm not an SS helmet expert like Darryl or Ty Smith but they have helped me and other collectors already a lot against financial misfortunes !!! THANKS DARRYL AND TY!!!

ps: I would fall for that one too if it was offered to me!!!

                    HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

                    regards,
                    Gerd V

how do you see it's fake?
I'm getting really interested into helmets, and I want to learn before I buy one.

Clicked on the EBAY listing for this helmet and it is now an invalid item. Maybe someone alerted EBAY to this being a forgery or am I being too idealistic??

                              Guys,

In hand these pieces do not stand up to scrutiny. Books like 'SS Steel' are of less benefit to those with ill intent than to a genuine collector.

Regarding SS pieces, buy from a cast-iron source, get a cast-iron return/guarantee & get cast-iron opinions from the likes of D. Pajot, L. Marcella, M. Miller, T. smith, P. Floyd (you get the picture).

Under no circumstances enter unchartered waters without the benefit of the aforementioned navigation tools or you will be well & truly holed below the water line!
