M43 SS real or fake?

Greetings,

Picked this up about 20 years ago and have always thought it was good. The skull on the front is very thick. The back of the buttons are dated 42 and marked BJ. No other markings besides the R.B. Nr..

It appears that it never had a cloth eagle on the side. May have had a metal eagle, but no sign of holes.
