    Zimmerit and rust.

On the other thread where we were discussing Zimmerit, and after Andy and Nick posted their helmets, I noticed (I think) that Zimmerit applied to helmets seems to have absorbed rust (at some points near the rim) in a manner that camo paint can't. So, I hope both can add some closeups to add to this. Would like to see if there is some consistency on this theory. Perhaps I am wrong, just pursuing a thought. I have also never seen Zimmerit in bright white.

Here is a closeup of the rear of a M38.

Here is a view of the side where the decal would be. The Zimmerit, in it's natural color, was so thinnly applied to this helmet that you can make out the aluminum slotted bolt.

      Hello Willi

Hmm, it's very hard to make out what exactly it is, as there is no real evidence of rust, well maybe just a little surface rust. The other thing is that there are just a few spots where the zimmeritt is real strong and thick , on those places there is no real brown color. on the edge you can see that the color of the paint is brown, but there is no zimmeritt there, just camo paint.
I will post some pictures I hope you see what I'm trying to say.
      Best regards
      Nick

Here is the other spanner bolt. This would be the best picture to proof (maybe)
around the spannerbolt there is zimmeritt and a brown color....

3Here is an other one. Could be rust, but don't know where the rust would be.

Thanks Nick. View #3 is what I was hoping to see, based on what I saw in the other thread. It appears that the rust got absorbed by the Zimmerit, in sort of a bleeding manner. Doesn't mean the metal has to be heavily rusted.

I understand what you mean. Hope Andy can show us the same thing.

This goes to an M40 covered with white wash too. Nice helmet, unfortunately, it appears the Vet thought would look better cleaned on the inside. Took the liner out and cleaned it up and put it back in.
