    Helmets by NS

How common are helmets manufactured by NS? I see many helmets stamped ET and Q but not very many by NS. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Steve,

ET was the first manufacturer of the Model 1935 (M-35) Steel helmet. They were followed in suite by SE and then Q. EF and NS were the last to begin the manufacturing process.

I have no specific numbers on production at hand (because I'm at work) but I believe Baer's book possibly has some numbers. I am under the impression that EF and NS manufactured far less lids than ET/SE or Q.

Personally, I like their shape the best.

Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Thanks, that does help clarify / affirm what I was thinking. I will get into the books to see what I can find. My latest helmet purchase is a SD army M40 made by NS and is my first helmet with a decal, so naturally I need to find out as much about it as I can. My helmet also has a dome stamp which I understand is only on about 25% of the helmets, so I feel lucky in that regard.

      Cheers,

      Steve

                  Steve,

That's a very nice NS helmet...congratulations. It is my contention that virtually all factory-issue helmets were dome stamped so to see one inside your helmet is not all that surprising. However, it's nice to have it still visible after all these years.

I have an SS decaled M-40, but can't work out the maker of the lid. It is 64 size stamped on the side, but there is no maker initials before it. It has another stamp on the rear, but it's not a good one and is difficult to make out. The best I can make out is that the first letter could be a P, D or an F. The second letter looks like half an N, then what looks like a 3, then C 1. Any ideas?.
                    Merry Christmas, Bruce.

Ken, that is the nicest dome stamp I have ever seen Maybe we should start a thread on dome stamps to see all the variations that people have.

                            Cheers,
