    Strange chinstrap on WH M42

    Hi Guys.

I have this very nice M42 with a strange chinstrap.

It is made of 2 leather straps that has been sewn together, just like the FJ helmet straps.

It is soft and nice, without any markings, and it looks original to the helmet.

Have any of you seen this before?

    Best regards

Yes, they are uncommon but real. I have one on a helmet that came from a vet and I have seen a couple others posted on forums now and then.

My theory is exactly as you say - made from scraps of paratrooper chinstraps, probably late war, when leather was getting scarce. On mine, the buckle side of the strap is made the same way. I can't tell if your buckle strap is that way or not from your picture?

    Cheers,
    Terry
