Scott, majority of these hkp M42's were usually found with no decals. Every now and then you will find them with the Champagne type or field applied Pocher runic decals.

On the top right hand corner here is a little champagne glitter left but being a overcast day in Georgia I was unable to show it.

Even if it is indeed a champagne rune, I would consider it not pre-May 1945.

I understand, but going by the graphics (what's left), I just don't see it being a good Champagne type decal.
Best to wait for others to chime in. At this point i'm not convinced it's a good one.

Scott, looks like the rest of the helmet is good and complete. If you can remove the decal without any further damage to the exterior, you would have a nice no decal hkp M42.

This is a great example of why good untouched ND helmets are so nice to be able to get hold of, because many have suffered the same fate as this.... fake/postwar added decals!!! What a shame....
