    Police Camo-before and after

Bought this from a local guy recently
I am going to be selling it,so I want to put it up here first
Obviously it has been cleaned,so please no rude comments from the good ol boy club about how its not collectable (Ive already blocked most of the worst offenders)

Here is his thread detailing the original find- http://www.walhalla.se/topic/27420-m...-camo/?hl=camo

Its a very rare one,but yes,I know, unfortunately it has been cleaned.I still think its better than the monstrosity that it once was though.
Could benefit from further cleaning maybe?
    Here are some pics-

Thank you.Obviously I wish it weren't in the condition it is,but such is life.
I cannot imagine the person who repainted it sitting there thinking "what this helmet needs is a hideous lime green paint job with a black stripe down the middle"

              WHYYYYY?????

Love this helmet, and it brings up a couple of questions for me.
                1) What exact role did front line police troops play in the war? I'm assuming you wouldnt camoflage your helmet if you werent in a front line combat role.
                2) This camo seems very unique; has anyone seen this type of camo before? Is it a police helmet type camo, or does it appear on other combat helmets too?
                3) With just a last name but knowing he was in the combat police is there any chance to track down some history on this Soldat?

The police battalions did the dirty work in Poland, and most were rear area security. Some like the 19th Geb SS Police Btn fought extensively. Anti-partisan combat but sadly that was also a euphemism for Final Solution activities.

The 4th SS Polizei Division fought front line combat from wars beginning to end. They added SS decals and insignia in 42/43 when formally becoming a Waffem SS division.

                  Many books on the subject.

Someone on the GHW where it was originally posted before I bought it commented that it was exactly the type of camo they expected to see on a police helmet
                    Nobody ever elaborated
I do recall seeing a very similar one somewhere recently, but I can not remember where
You'll have plenty of time to research it

Looks like I am the proud new owner of this one.
Doug; I see in Darrins original thread over on GHW you mentioned that this one could be improved by a bit more cleaning by a pro. Do you have any contact info for the gentleman you referenced? (I will ask about this helmet over there too).
Is there 1 good book you can recommend about the police battalions?

I would of done the same thing, definitely a improvement. I found one that was painted British racing green. Under the paint it was a Luftwaffe. To me it looks better than it was.
