My grandfather sent home a camouflaged fallschirmjager parachute in 1945. It never arrived. Seems that the mail was stolen a lot, especially packages with war souvenirs.
I also heard of a 10 year old kid in New York at the docks who bought 2 live M 24 stick grenades for $3 from a GI getting discharged. They blew them off in a vacant lot. I think that GI would definitely be arrested today.

I was buying probably 1 complete German FJ parachute a month from the USA,I equipped the FJ re enactment group i was a member of..I just couldn't believe what was sent back to America as souvenirs....I bet German helmet ratio wise 100/150 lids went home to the States to 1 to the UK,98% of my collection has come from the USA
Thanks for the interesting stories,it doesn't surprise me in the least.....kids with grenades?...what's the world coming to

        Cheers

        Bob
