Unusual Camo helmet - what is it?

I would sincerely appreciate any information on this camo M40 helmet that a local gentleman just sent me. He didn't know this was a German helmet, let alone a camo helmet. He just wanted it out of the house. What is the significance of the black-painted backwards swastika, if any? All the paint seems old. Any help would be appreciated.

I would leave it as is, it's more then likely soldier art applied post war as others have stated. Some collectors like that sort of stuff and would give you what soldier art helmets go for. Those who don't like soldier art would give you less then if it were just a straight camo. So i would say between $800- $1200 but that's just my opinion. Put it on Estand and you will see.

And why would you think that? Would need some explanation I think. I like the camo paint.
