So not period?
Paint looks to have age to me
So Your reasoning?
I bought it at a flea market for very little money less then if it had not been painted so the aim wasn't to bump the price up
Merely an opinion. What is my opinion based on, probably the same thing you are basing your opinion on, the look of it.
The paint and hand rendered insignia just doesn't have a look of believability to me whereas it does to you. I don't think the cost of the helmet or where it is bought should factor into the equation.
In any case, others may disagree. My apologies for a silly comment, no harm was intended.
My opinion is based in having the helmet in hand and looking at the paint through a glass . the rivet and chin strap have not been altered or taken off
Where you buy and what you pay does make a difference
If it had been at a show on a dealers table with a high price due to the decals I can understand why someone would paint it too make more money but if you find something at a boot fair for pennies why would anyone bother?
It would be worth more as a standard helmet you can see the original decal under the paint
I agree in hand makes a huge difference and white is a bugger to photograph correctly.
I also agree that at a dealer table for $1500 vs a boot sale for a few bucks makes it perhaps more believable but still not a way to judge authenticity in the end.
Either way like I said it's just my 2 cents which is worth very little, best of luck with it. For a few bucks I would have bought it as well, what's to lose right?
