Do my eyes deceive me?

I think I might be crazy, but I bought this on a whim and to me it looks like a helmet cover made from a German parachute. The man I bought it from said he has had it over 20 years and doesn't remember where it came from. What do you guys think? I'll add some pictures of it on a German shell when I get it.





I see three different shades of green in the second pic, much like the parachute shown here (thanks to Oceansider on here):

It also seems to be cut in a somewhat similar pattern to the Heer helmet covers, albeit a bit more simplified.

could be any old bit of german FJ chute, and i doubt it would be a German made helmet cover as the guy would probably have be put on a charge for damaging Luftwaffe property.. sorry not a good one for me

I see your point, but even if it was a torn to shreds parachute? I could them using a trashed parachute for something useful rather than just tossing it.

I like it. I think it's entirely possible it was made during the war from a German parchute. American soldiers recycled parachutes for all types of things from helmet covers, to scarfs and I even saw a wartime photo of a French bride in a dress made from parachute material.

The Germans were notorious for throwing nothing away, and they were very innovative with a variety of materials. I recall seeing one photo of a German soldier using a white tablecloth with snowflake designs as a camo helmet cover.

To suggest canopy material wouyld never be recycled or used, especially during the later period is unrealistic.

Anyone who ever bothered to serve in the military would understand this.

Uncountable variables exist supporting field expedient use of material at hand.

Real life generally trumps rules and regulations to bits.
