    Spoof ,
that liner could have been taken out by just removing the 12 Alu. leather securing pins by some over curious vet and it could have been done not long after the war

    Cheers

Again, highly unlikely. Notice the liners in the below thread posted by various forum members. They are all at the 10 & 2 position. I'm sure there are many more out there.

I would like to get some thoughts on the decal or what's left of it. Anyone think it's an early droop tail? Thanks

Yeah I have one an EF M42 Police helmet with reversed liner
Looks untouched to me and I've looked at a couple over the years
Brian Ices lot number research book also lists my lot numbered M42
as having a reversed liner? Go figure
It's the same helmet or there are others put together by
the same backward person on the same production line.
Remember people repetitive production line work is a breeding ground for mistakes.

Too right Paul, over 6 million pots made by multiple manufacturer s , different styles of each decal, some applied poorly, big variations in finish colours, sometimes washers left out on assembly , sometimes stampings less than average so it would be a big call to say leather went in the same way every single time! German efficiency is enviable but not infallible Regards Bill

Many THANKS to everyone for their posts and opinions. I am going to leave the helmet just as I found it. I learned a lot from this discussion.

                      Thanks again, BDM
