    Early M35 DD Luft

Hello everyone. I picked up this early DD Luft today. Just wondering if anyone had seen the seam in the liner in this position before? Thanks.

The National Shield has been painted over but you can still see the outline. The early non-reinforced aluminum liner band is dated B&C Berlin 1937. The band is also broken in one place. Decent leather. Only two small pieces of the chinstrap left. Can't make out the manufactuer or size but looks to be a 64. It is what it is. Salty,

        Hello BMD,
The leather liner has been taken out at some point and put back incorrectly.
Now you could take it out carefully and depending on how supple the leather is and put it back to the correct position with the seam at the back or just leave as it is.
Would like to see better pics head on of the luft Eagle decal.
Just a bit of TLC required

        Cheers
        Bob

I disagree. There are a few known examples with liners factory installed in this manner.

I have never seen any period combat helmet with the liner installed in any configuration than seam in the rear. Either the original liner was removed at some point or this one is not the original liner.

Typical Vets taking things apart and not putting them back together again properly

This is how I found the helmet and I will leave it that way. If I sell the helmet and the new owner wants to switch it around they can do that. I am a big fan of leaving things as found. I am not an expert but I do think this liner is original to this helmet, although the leather may have been turned around at some point. Just MHO. Thanks to everyone.

Highly unlikely. So you are saying the inner band with suspension springs was removed? Mighty difficult task. And all 3 rivets do not have secondary bends nor is there heavy scratching from trying to realign the suspension springs into the slots.
