It must just be a British thing, but to put size stamps to the front seems odd, it's like putting a sweatshirt on backwards, the label on your neck.I've been searching for 5 pad liner systems,but was only finding 3 and 4 pad versions, which do have the pads either side, but again why put in a extra pad for the back of the helmet?
I have been hoping someone would post a period pic of a Czech LS in use, hopefully someone will have one, sometime.
Agreed that there seems to be no definate way to wear this helmet.If I had to wear it, I know which way I would...
-Scenario - Your country is invaded - the invaders take over your army - you have a helmet that is symetrical - you know how to wear it, but the invaders don't - they ask "how is this worn?" - in an act of defiance, because your not too happy about your new "allies" - you tell them it's the other way around !-
Only a thought, which doesn't help me with the photo in Ludwig Baers book.(Yes ,sorry, the bible for German Helmet collecting, and to be fair, it isn't a German Helmet).
The "traditional" decal placement on the left for M35,40,42 helmets, - I believe is the traditional placement for those type of helmets, but not the traditional placement for captured,re-issued helmets, I may be wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere.
Looking back on the first photo, I actually can imagine the soldier and his mates mucking around.The helmet does appear thrown on, the guy with a grin, -"does this lid suit me sir?", - "O yes Hans, Suits you!"
My only conclusion is that if I were a Czech in that period and wearing one of these lids(whatever way), I would have a decal at the left,right,front,back and probably one on top, just to be on the safe side.....

After Czechoslovakian (pre & post-war) regulations M32 helmet is to worn with single rivet to the FRONT!!!
(I have picture from uniform regulations of pre-war czechoslovakian army)
These helmets were used by pre-war Czechoslovakian army, So-called "Vladni vojsko" of Protectorate , Slovakian army, Bn. Roland, Heer, ORPO, Luftschutz & Finnish army too. After one czech source some of these helmets were selling by Germans after occupation of Czechoslovakia to Yugoslavia & Chile (in 1939). After another source were these helmets manufactured in Yugoslavia (licence).
After war they were used by czechoslovakian army to mid-fifties. Some of them were then sold to communist Vietnam, Kuba, Algeria & Egypt.Originals were painted khaki on both sides (inside & outside) with "double" chin-strap in case of army, light bluegrey with red strip on bottom for czechoslovakian CPO (AA Civic Defence). During mobilisation (1938) were these helmets delivered to Czechoslovakian Governmental Police, Gendarmerie and "Financni straz" (Financial border guard) -for all in khaki color).
(Interesting is fact, that these helmets were NOT used by protectorate police - they used rather german helmets with protectorate coat of arms (middle) decals).
Vladni vojsko used decals (coat of arms of Protectorate),
Slovakian army had (ligh) blue strip with white crosses on both sides (to avoid confusion with Russsian soldiers).

Your helmet is helmet used by czechoslovakian army (due to acceptance stamp of czechosloavakiian army - "lion" - last two number of year of acceptance), reissued for WH-Heer. (Marking in 1st row is name of manufacterers in Brno - "Bratřà Gottliebové a Brauchbar".)
Blindpew's helmet is 100% fake, made from Czechoslovakian after-war CO (Civil Defence) black painted helmet with afterwar chinstrap (probably for M52/M53 czechoslovakian helmet) and afterwar padding.Last edited by lbsr; 12-12-2004, 07:52 PM.Comment

I know my helmet is a fake, but I only used it as a guide for explaining my thoughts on the liner system, however postwar, it is essentially the same helmet, and would be worn the same way as an original M32.
