    3 decal M35 helmet?

    Hi all!

I have in my collection, this helmet, m35 with what it looks like be 3 decals, unfortunatelly, the 3º and the WH decal are deteriorated. the helmet was dug up in Nuremberg.

Does anyone have seen more helmets like this with an extra decal?

Or i am wrong and the 3º decal is not what i think and is another thing...

And what about the 2 o 3 tones of green paint? could be camo? or it's just the "classic" repaint through the years of war?

    Thanks!

      Very interesting.

The shape on the 3rd decal looks odd. Maybe it the corrosion - or it's not a standard decal.

Does anyone have seen before something like this? or is there any photo of another 3 decal helmet?

The 3º decal looks for me like a WH standar decal

I've seen a few others on the internet (maybe some here at WAF).

Some try to call them "Volkssturm" helmets, I guess because there's no standard or known group that used three decals. They are usually told that no one at war would put three decals on a helmet, especially with one providing a nice, bright target on the front of head so the helmets are considered post-war "Vet Art" examples.

If a ground dug find would validate the "Norwegian Slurry Camos" to the skeptics then maybe a ground dug tri-decal would validate the "Volkssturm Tri-Decal" configuration. Do you know anything about the context of your helmet's discovery? Were any other artifacts found with it? Was everything pre-May 1945, etc.?

Hi! I have never seen a 3º/front decal on a WH helmet, could you post some photos?

I have seen the Luftschutz front decal, the italian "front decal", and the clasics US 1st, 69th, 2nd divisions... But never in a WH helmet, neither in the volkssturm ones...

It's curious what you say about "volkssturm" helmets, as the war progressed, the decals were diminishing, so has little sense that the Volkssturm use 3 decals, or the helmets like this was called volkssturm helemts.

Anyway, the only that i know is that the helmet was found in Nuremberg. For me, it looks like (At least) an original M35 DD all pre may-1945, the other decal, could be add post war, even it couldn't be a "real decal" it could be a non period kind of "sticker". Or a WH decal that a boring soldier in the rear, decided to put a 3º decal in his helmet, and one day forgot it in the ground till someone saw it and sell it to me. Unfortunately we will never know the real story, maybe that mystery make it more special...

I search on the internet and found this one.... It says 15% of the tri color was there, then there is the army and luftwaffe..... I'm sure there is more as I remember seeing others posted on different forums. This was sold by Mohawk Arms

                      Thanks for the info guys!!

I hope mine were in better conditions, like the ones you posted, but anyway i think it's a rare piece.
(When i bought it, i bought it like a "normal" german helmet, don't know if the one that was sold by Mohawk Arms was for a high price or what, and i have no idea of this one worth more for the "extra" decal, but the seller that i bought it from, didn't added me a cent for it).

Maybe used by Vokssturm, maybe a boring soldier add it in a certain moment, who knows..! I will keep it in my collection like a curiosity helmet.
