At the end of 1944 german pow were held in the Sint-janberchmanscollege, a school in Avelgem. They surrendered because they couldn't pass the river Scheldt, earlyer retreating troops blew up the bridges and british troops were too close. I got this helmet from a former resistance member who served as one of their guards. He kept some equipment and helmets as a souvenir.
