    M40 production numbers.

This is a newbie question from me as I'm not a helmet collector.

My question is can anyone tell me just how rare is the M40 model in general? Someone told me the M40,s total production run was 571 units. I find this hard to believe ?!?!?

Can anyone shed some lite on this with sources etc so I can set this person or myself strait.

    Thanks in advance.

    Glen

Maybe they mean batches. There were a lot of helmets in each batch so this could of been what they meant...

          Think about it logically
How many men were deployed in the German Wehrmacht 1939 onwards, I think that should give you a very good idea on how many M40 helmets were produced and required

            WHSammler,

There was an estimated 25 million german helmets produced during ww2.

M40s would of had there lions share of that production and you have a friend who thinks that only 571 M40 helmets were produced?

            That's ridiculous.

There is not a single person alive, that would know exactly how many of each model of helmet was produced, so im not sure how you could have a friend that could arrive at an exact 571 units of anything produced.

Tell your friend to do some research and stop taking notice of him.

in my lotnr list with 2002 entries the ratios are thus :

                M35 : 43%
                M40 : 35%
                M42 : 22%

                  Greetings to all.
I take this opportunity to ask a question. (not quite on this topic).
Question for someone seem banal. But the information to answer it, I still have not found.
At what stage of technological put the stamp (lot number, Size)?
They were placed on the flat piece of metal that came metallurgical shop or already finished dome, after pressing?

                    After the helmet was formed.

                      Thanks KradSPam for the answer.
                      I think so too.
But then do not understand one thing. Why is there no trace of the stamp on the back (outer) side of the helmet-logically they should be visible? Or maybe not.
And probably stamp sets before hardening, while the metal is soft.
                      Thank you!
