    Army winter camo

Here's one I picked up about 8 years ago when the first helmets were coming out of Russia. Proper winter camo in my opinion. When I got it it was absolutely caked with mud in the skirt which had gone rock hard like cement. I scraped it off but it left some scratches. Decal image clearly seen under the paint. Checks out in the Brian Rice book as having left the factory in late 1937.

The Blow torch effect is not convincing. Bad.

Gents , it's true camo , I know provenance and as I see it still not being taken apart or so since the time when was dug up . I think I already post some pix with this helmet couple of years before . Found in deep bunker of 12ID , Demyansk area . These blows because of very wet soil , you should't be worry about authenticy...

I agree bunker find, i remember a thread from a while ago on another forum about some diggers in russia that dug up some winter camo SS helmets in just as good condition like this one deep from within a clay bunker, they were highly preserved.

Many thanks. I was always fairly sure it was ok, so that confirms it.

Interesting info, Sturm. Now that I can look at it on a big screen I can see what you are saying.

I always thought this helmet looked like a good ground dug helmet
and it was bagged straight away as crap
if Sturm had not clarified the provenance it would have stayed that way
how many good helmets has this forum killed?
Good work Dave an original winter camo congrats mate!
