funny story, and was wondering exactly the same!!!
I wouldn't feel comfortable now, knowing I have paid $550 15 years ago

But you can not realize how many SS helmets in this condition I have handeled over the years.
Here in Norway the SS soldiers did not have combat service so we often find SS helmets in the condition as "the Arendal helmet".

'Ole' jokes are not even known in California (sadly), so the rest of the world may not know about the regional jokes about Americans of Scandinavian ethnicity coming out of Minnesota.

Nice helmet with a fantastic collector lineage. The history of collecting this stuff is interesting in itself.
