    M42 ND Opinions...

    Hello All,

I am not much of a helmet guy and took a chance on this one. This one was offered to me as a partial trade and it had originally came with a really thick camo sand repaint that I was sure I could remove to see what was under it. I guess I got a little too abrasive on the pins that keep the liner in. I wish I had took a before and after but I really wanted to get the crappy paint off of it.

The size and maker stamp appear to be a little faint compared to ones I have seen so that kinda scares me. I guess I am wondering if the if its all bad or is the helmet, liner or chinstrap any good?

I am really not a helmet guy so if this thing is complete crap please just let me know!

    Thanks,
    Chris G.

                      Hey Guys,

Since I haven't received any replies I was wondering if there were any better photos that I could provide to help?

                      Regards,
                      Chris G.

The paint and the "184" in the skirt both look postwar applied to me. I say that based on the color and texture. The liner looks good to me but I am very suspicious of the chin strap. To me this looks like something that might have been worn by a reenactor.

IMO, it's all repro except for the metal shell. Leather looks dyed. Humpback repro buckle on strap. Paint has no texture and color is off. I agree it was probably a reenactor's helmet.

Actually, the outer liner band is original too. Look how shiny the inner band is. Whoever put that helmet together slid a repro inner band with leather into an original outer band.

Shell reminds me of a post war stock pile Finland? I agree the chinstrap is not W2.rgds
