    What helmet is this?

    See the pictures,

    What kind/model helmet is this?
    Who were wearing it?

The finish of the helmet looks original to me except for the paint surrounding the decal. Was this surface repainted and the decal placed by the German Government or was it done by a postwar collector?

It was found on the street in the 1970's (The Netherlands, near Rotterdam. Left by playing children?). It is since then in the possession of the same owner who wants to sell it. What is the value?

    Regards,

    Jan

Thank you both for your response.

I know the owner very wel and I'm certain that it is in his possession for more than 30 years. I'm amazed that it is fake.

Are you sure? Is it possible that is was made booty in Norwegian by the Germans and indeed used by German soldiers in the Netherlands or is it it simply a falsification and nothing more than that?

OK, now I understand. It is indeed a German M40 helmet, later on reissued in Norwegian. After that someone put a false decal on it. It this what you mean?

What is the value of this helmet?

Yes, that's right. Worth what someone would want to pay for it...10€? 30€? 50€? I don't know. The shell is original.

The Norwegian used the German helmets left in their Country.
This helmet is one of them.
Then it reached Netherlands were somebody put a fake decal on it covering with unmatching paint (the strange paint aroud the fake decal) the Norwegian lion decal.
                That's it.
                For me.

                      Thanks,

Ok someone put a fake decal on it but it's still a WW-II german M40 helmet in a further good shape.

Is the value of such an item indeed no more than a 50 euros? I have seen totaly other prices for similar M40 helmets in a worser shape.

Mint refurbished condition is not as desirable as any original untouched piece in any condition (ones in lesser condition as well)......So, you should compare the price of this item to ones that have been reworked as well.....Bodes

It is a fairly big size so reenactors would buy it to restore for their purposes.
I would venture to say $125-$150 range.

I doubt it was found on the street in the 70's lol . Liner paint chinstrap decal are all messed with ( techinical term) therefore it does not have any real WW2 German helmet collector appeal . However it does have a value of about £ 100 for a re-enactor . Rob
