    Question about liners

I would appreciate your help clarifying this to me. Is it ok to find combat helmets with civic liners? I mean as a result of late war material shortage? Or these helmets should be considered as post war messed with examples?
    Thank you in advance.

It happened on a very small scale near wars end.

Also note the M35 style that continued to be used in post-war Germany all had a civic style liner compared to the wartime M31 liner.

That seemed to have happened on a very very small scale. If I saw one today my first thought would be that it was post war screwed with.

Yes most would pass on them including myself. I've seen helmets that I had no doubt were done wartime that had civic style liners and chinstraps, liners made to fit in a larger shell, leather made to fit on too small of a liner ring. I consider these a period flaw and does effect value but no doubt in my mind it was done wartime.

          Hello Mario

I agree with Perry and Ty on the this matter.

Also note that it was common to wear lightweight helmets during the last months of the war, not only the liners.I saw several pictures of Volksturm and HJ members wearing lightweight style helmets ( polizei, luftschutz, feuerwehr,etc...) during the battle for Berlin for example...

Many M35-40 and 42 steel combat-helmets were refurbished postwar by a lot of services including other nation armies. The liners found in these are somtimes very similar to their ww2 german counterparts.

          Cheers

Thank you very much for stepping in. Your comments really had an impact on me. I was considering getting one helmet with the above mentioned configuration and will give it up.
So towards the end of war most of guidelines concerning equipment were not observed? It would be interesting to find out which helmet configurations showed up and what troops were wearing. Are there examples of any british, soviet, american helmets scavengered by germans?
