    identifying marks on helmet?

Has anybody come across this kind of scouring before,it's been suggested that it's been burned? also that it has rubbed against a moving tyre while hung on the side of a vehicle? or that it has been upended and used as something to sit on? any comments would be welcome. Peter.

Hi, this piece bothers me...that hokey splatter technique for aging is getting to be tiresome IMO....throws serious doubt on everything if you get my drift. I would give this piece a big thumbs down!

Where did he bring it back from??? Latvia???

I have serious doubts that this is in fact original. Bad aging, bad decals (can't vouch for eagle though, but it probably is) the tri color decal is new, you can see the white is extremely bright.

Also, an M40 with double decals and an Afrika camo job is almost unheard of. Whoever you bought it from either isn't as old as you think, or he is cheating you.

Also the tricolor has been place OVER the DAK paintjob, and that is entirely wrong. Please, punch the person you bought this from in the teeth and demand your money back. And the random wear spot next to the eagle is entirely ridiculous! Why would it wear there and not more centered on teh top, or even on teh rim???

I say, steady on old chap, he is asking for help, not a kick in the balls...

                            All the best,
                            Steve.

                              Hello Peter,

Thank you for posting this interesting picture. This looks like an original helmet shell that someone has done a new paint job on. The wear areas are where another person had sense and removed the modern paint job in areas to check-out what was underneath, IMO. The decals are wrong and the liner is not original to the shell.
                              Regards,
                              harry
