Indeed a centrepiece for any collection, and much rarer (and for me more desirable) than it's SS cousin.
Looking forward to seeing some more detail shots when you have the time.
Congratulations on a nice purchase .

    Patrick.

Thanks guys. The helmet blessed to sport this cover is one of two Normandy pick up helmets I have. This helmet was picked up by a vet on Utah beach in the afternoon of 6 June 44. The helmet is only a shell. Neat part is that's how it was found - in a bunker and used as a candle holder by the Germans. You can still see where the wax marked the inside dome. It's an ET64 with a 95% bird. This is a perfect "plain-jane" M40 to gently hold that cover.

Again, thanks. Now, anyone know where I can find a REAL Heer FJ lid? That's next on my list.....

          Tom,
Congratulations on the Heer cover. Is the drawstring made of folded over camo material? Notice how most of these things are beat up, mine has many tears in it.

Don't get your hopes up on an Heer FJ lid. There are few (if any) real ones known. I'm not sure if I have ever seen a real one. Willi, Chris or John might shed more light on this.

Rob, I think you mean a barn, not a warehouse!

                Hi John,

In 1980, a dear friend had a very real DD Heer FJ. It was the earlier style with the four slots. He had it here in PA. He died in about 1985. Where it went is a mystery - but in 1980 he wanted $2000 for it.

Oh, yes, the draw string is made of the same camo material, folder over & stitched.

Trust me - I'm not getting my hopes up for the FJ.

                Thanks again.
