Well Robb, true stories about REAL SS helmets turning up ARE few and far between...BUT I have ONE....Was still collecting Baseball Cards(about 12-15 years ago) when I was attending a card/coin show at the local mall. One of the dealers had an ORIGINAL SS M42 SD sitting on his table(possibly the first REAL one I'd ever seen). I inquired about the price, but said it was already SOLD!! I was bumming big time. Should've got there sooner.I walked away. So I went back and asked him, how much he sold it for."$50.00!!!!"....A little salt into an open wound (I knew they were worth about 10X that) So I had a moment of devine intervention ...A little voice in my head told me to go back and ask him IF he'd consider taking $100 for the helmet....Better to go down fighting I figure...Well, he turned to the dealer behind him(The guy he sold it to) to converse on the helmet...I was sweating it out He turned to me and said "YES"..Unfortunately that was $100 more than I had in my wallet...So I had to call my dad and told him to get to town(30 miles away) ASAP with the money...I was pacing the parking lot like a father expecting his first child....Well, I STILL have that helmet in my collection and the fond memories of HOW it was obtained....

Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera as we speak...It is an EF or ET66 shell (poorly stamped, hard to read), complete with original chinstrap, 90-95% paint and 85-90% decal...But the thing I think I like the best is the back rivet has been smacked by something (piece of shrapnel, rifle butt????) Has character....

Robb, I sent you a PM

Thanks for the kind words gents...........

As i said earlier, it is a very nice M/42 appart from the decal.
Now it is displayed with the offending decal to the wall.....
            Here are some other views.......
