MYSTERY Kriegsmarine cap

Hi fellas:
I came across this cap and wonder what on earth it is??? It's similar in style
to the standard KM cap, but differs in the following ways:
-it's made entirely out of white cotton.
-it's 10" in diameter not the standard 11.5"
-it has one central inside seam (though the seam is only on the inside
top not on the outside top) instead of four seams to each of the four
cardinal points (as was standard I believe).
-it has a 1" band which is reinforced inside with yellowed rolled up paper
with German typed printing on it, instead of the standard 1.5" black band.
The cap band that is crudely sewn on reads: "7. V. MATROSENARTILLERIE
REGIMENT. V. 7" (it's the standard 1 1/4" width).
Is there any chance that this was used in the KM??
Any idea where it could have originated. There's wear and sweat staining
on the inside band and inside top.

Here's a close-up of the head band (with the cap band turned up) and the

Not a Kriegsmarine vintage ribbon, the use of Latin lettering predates the KM. There was an all-linen white EM's cap in use by the Kaiserliche Marine, however, this one shows little resemblance to it.

This is speculation on my part, but it is possible what you have is the white top of a 40s - 50s vintage US Naval officer's cap, with an added stiffener inside and an Imperial German cap tally outside. The tally does appear original, though shortened.
