WW1 cammo lid on Ebay, opinions?

Hi gents, any opinions on this one. I'd be interested in it pending feedback from yourselves.
    Cheers, Glenn.

    Hi Glenn,
I think it's pretty convincing, more so if it didn't have the owners name inside.
I think it is too clear and unworn compared to the rest of the helmet.Maybe it was touched up by a sign-writer!
Chances are some vultures here will jump on that helmet and double the price that it's sitting at the moment.
The guy has a reasonably good feedback, but considering he has a lot of "rare?" german stuff to sell, I'm surprised he's not aware that it's actually a M18.
I know some of the guys here have good researching skills and maybe could trace the name on the helmet?
The stamp is interesting, how rare I don't know...I have a lot to learn myself.
The camo looks okay to me but again I'm no specialist.(perhaps there should be a bit more wear around the rear outside nape?).

As a M18 shell, it's about it's money,IMO, camo-ed, worth a bit more in my eyes but personally I wouldn't go too much higher than what it's sitting at.
(I'm NOT and WON'T be bidding on it), I'm not clued up enough on the "finer" details.

Not much help I'm afraid.....food for thought really.

Colin, many thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. It's not my area of expertise I'm afraid but would like an original piece to form the centre of my Imperial EK's etc. I must admit, the name does look odd.

        Hi Glenn,

        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ght=bell+stamp

Had a search back in the forums and found this thread.Indicates that the bell stamp is okay.Would look good as a centrepeice for your collection but I dunno how much this will go for.....it has a lot of interest for 4 days to go worth watching though.

Yes, this is a good "Bell-L" maker marked helmet...a fairly rare breed. You can always tell a Bell-L from the outside by the rounded off vent lugs. All other makers seem to have had them quite squared and sharper on the edge.

However, I must admit that I do not like the camo job...just my opinion.

Thanks again chaps. Seems to be an original lid with perhaps questionable paintwork then?

If exists a doubt (even a minimum doubt) of the veracity of any helmet, that doubt will exists forever. Because of that, we can´t always be 100% sure when we look at the helmet and that´s terrible. Not to mention the money spent..Perhaps wait another chance with one with no doubts. My opinion.

Not the most honest helmet I've ever seen.

I think the camo paint is original on this helmet. I have seen many WWI German camos that were camoed just before the Spring offensive in March 1918 only to be souvenired by Allied soldiers a few days later. I have several and I know Ken N. has a few.

But the fact that it is only a shell limits is value. It is not worth $400 IMO.
