Here's a real Luftwaffe Fire Helmet, Vet bring-back, even has the vet's SSN scratched into the shell inside.
Anyway - it's been years since I meant to post this. But - well worth the wait, since this will show you the real vs the Many fakes out there. Take note of the details.
Notice also - look at the lines of the white band around the shell - how they aren't perfect. Look at the LW insignia - where it is scratched, you can see the metallic silver underneath the insignia. With fakes, this doesn't happen.

I'm not the helmet expert - but I know enough that when I buy this for $60 bucks from a picker who has a boatload of other mementos from a Vet, I'm on the right track. Sorry it took years to post the pictures!

I handle and see more SS and KM lids than these Luft fire pieces, they may not be as 'glamorous' but I've only handled one other real one.
