It always helps to post photos of the whole helmet. That's why people weren't commenting to start.

thanks, 10-4 adam - so here's the story: well the helm's spotty; I thought old yellow mud. wrong! turns out the guy as a kid 50 years ago didn't like the wartime paint and scraped most of it off. can you say, 'wuestegelb'? there I knew you could. 'I didn't know about the africa korps back then' he told me sheepishly. :---(

so I used acetone f'nail polish remover to take a little off. the next guy (I have to sell it, sadly) can do the rest or just keep as is! here's a quik pic or three.. btw any helm collectors in the wash dc/va/md area? and a fair estand price, please? cheers!

Last two - by the way some pix are a little greenish coz the background was on grass outside. Also, the name pencil'd on the rear liner looks like 'grfr. W.m. Schufer' (mit umlaut) and ... Some 'zug' or other.

The paint removal wasn't done too poorly but having been done post-war I would say around $1000?

Nice one David, no issues, I have never been drawn to these early Luft decals myself though preferring the newer versionfor aesthetic reasons. Good find.

I agree, you can see why they felt the need to change the design. I'd really love an early one like this though, very nice lid
