M40 DD police helmet number inside?

Have this police helmet for some time now in my collection but I often wonder what this number could be that is scrahted inside the rim.
Any ideas?

Just a guess but could it be the guy's service number?....MAYBE the GP stands for grunepolizei (green police)....I believe they were the ones who found Anne Frank and her families' secret annex....

This helmet was captured in Austria 1945. AS you can see the helmet has 3 dents from a Thompson gun. The name also scrached inside is SCHNASE.

Nick, the only information I could find was off the internet....Anne Frank lived in the secret annex for more than two years. Anne and the seven other people living with her were taken into custody by the "Green Police" in August of 1944......I guess that's the only reference I've ever come across pertaining to them...It was so unusual, it stuck in my mind....Of course another possibility could be his initials and service number...but I'd persue the Green Police and see what might transpire...You have his name which helps....

I do not think that the original owner would scratch something like "Grüne Polizei" into his helmet. This was more like a term used by the public when talking about the Polizei.

Organisations like Schutzpolizei, Gendarmerie etc could have had this helmet issued.These Police organisation would all be part of the Ordnungspolizei.

This type of helmet with these type of insignia were also worn by the 4th.SS-Pol.Div.

I cannot give you any further info on the number....it does not look familiar to any Polizei-issue number that I am familiar with..............

Ernst, read my initial post....I stated it was merely a guess and MAYBE it stood for grunepolizei....I like your argument...I don't really know what it stands for but I know it doesn't stand for that.....Great argument, huh??

3 dents from a thompson gun and no holes ?

These german helmets where really made from high quality steel

I noticed this number shortly after I purchased it. I have no idea what the scratches were but assumed it was done post war. The scratches looked too new to me, but I may be wrong.
It's a great helmet, the dents in the front came from a 45 cal, so the story goes.
