My Moms $50 M42...why did someone wreck it

Hey guys not an expert by any means on German items. My mom bought this helmet for 50 bucks at an antique store. The question is the SS decal is added right? Was it an original that someone added a decal too, I think the other decal is good right? NOt sure why someone would add the decal then sell it for 50 bucks?

still a herr lid for 50 bucks is not bad...

repo decal added to an original heer lid. I had one just like this a while back. Be careful if you remove the SS decal, as it can ruin what you have if it does not come off clean.

The SS decal is bad in every sense of the word. Heer looks like it should be good. Someone tried to pump it up with an SS decal and succeeded in killing it. If you can gently remove that SS decal, you should have a very nice Heer helmet. Definitely worth the $50. Yay, mom!
