SS Single Decal M40 helmet - yes another one

    Hi,
Any problems with this helmet at all apart fromt the obvious rust and pitting, worn liner etc.
Bought this a few years ago (but not from Eastern Europe) and just want opinions on the originality of the decal mainly. I can see that the rest of the helmet is pretty poor and the liner is more than likely replaced (judging by the pins).
    thanks for your comments.
    Mark

I give this one a Wear to the decal seems consistent with the rest of the helmet. Overall, I would not object to putting this in my own display cabinet.
Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
          All the best,
          Chris

That looks pretty good although it is difficult to say because of the wear. Interesting that that doesn't look like a Q shell, but does look like it could be a good Q variant SS. Not sure what the story is on the chinstrap, although my bet is, it's original with the helmet.

Unfortunately my first impression of this decal is not good.

Well, If I could see a luftwaffe decal on this helmet, I would not have asked for opinions from forum members. It would have been obvious that the helmet were not SS. In the pic it does look as though there may have been one on the left hand side but fortunately (or unfortunately) it is obvious when handling the helmet that it has not had any decals on this side at all.
                  Thank you.

Sorry if I offended you, but a bit of humour every now and then has never killed anybody. In this case, I am not even sure it is humour because there do seem to be the remains of a luft decal (right wing, and parts of the body). Any one els see it? If you say Mark, that it is just an impression, than that is good. But are you sure? I am not, because I realy do see the decal there; but as you said, I didnt handel the helmet.

I have seen much more stupid mistakes on this forum, from people that arent nececeraly stupid. It happens to everybody.

Hard to tell anything by those photos. I certainly wouldn't buy it based on the pictures. The aging looks odd in some areas.

Jean-Loup, I can say I DO see what you're looking at....It does have the shape of the end of a Luftwaffe eagle's wing tip(opposite side of the SS decal, where you'd normally see a luftwaffe eagle)...But I can honestly say, I think that's just where the helmet got scuffed by something and left that whitish mark there....Now as for the SS decal in question....it appears to me we have one of those that exhibits the bottom of the runes going below the vertical portions of the shield(Where the vertical portions turn into the arcs)...Also appears to have the little bit thicker border....I personally would NOT buy this helmet based solely on the pictures...

I also see what looks like the head; and a bit of the tail feathers. Since this helmet is in poor condition and seems to have camo, it could be difficult to tell weather there was a decal there are not.

Is that just age, or was/is this helmet camo'ed?

                              Stephan,
I don't believe that the helmet has been camo'd at all as much of what appears on the shell looks to be scuffs and age. As you can see the front has extensive pitting but much of the sides and back haven't suffered to this extent.
