I've had a closer look at the little paint that is on hangers themselves.It does have traces of green on them, so I have to assume they have been on since manufacture.
I've tried to really decifer the serial on the nape but it always looks like a worn to the left, "omega" sign, then followed by a "<", which I'm sure is not a remainder of a "k".then followed by "o", 64.( ~<o64 ), except the wiggely line is higher/e-longated).There is a possibility that the wiggely line may be attatched to the "<" as wellthough.
I've been trying rack my brains as to where a helmet this colour would have been worn.(civil post-war use).Mind you the general condition of the exterior states that it couldn't have seen much use.The green underneath looks like a different story though.(there is wear point's/scrapes/divets, that have been painted over by the "sand coloured" paint.)
I agree it is probably a post-war helmet, but what if is wasn't .....I suppose I'll have to dream on......
