M40 battle damage painted decal

Hi, Just got this one out the house for the value of the shell and liner, purportedly his bring back, pukka battle damaged decal removed army. Liners never been out but the strike has pinged the helmet pin off. The hand applied runes are very rough and although I dismissed it at first as a biker addition, now I'm not sure, loads of age and possibly been lacquered ?. It has Gfr. before the name so has been an army helmet. Addition of British chin strap seems right, this did happen and I've done a burn test on the thread and it's not modern.
I would appreciate any knowledgeable comments .

Personally I would say the insignia is post war applied, it looks like a child may have done it to me, maybe the vet's kid in the 50's?. I can see no real reason for it to happen during wartime, plenty of Pochers around if the SS man needed one.
