        Could that not be applied to WW2 to some extent also!

        The good old GI did take allot of souvenirs!

          I don't recall the source, but I saw a reference years ago about a Liberty Loan War (Victory Loan Drive) Bonds drive where for a donation you received a German helmet (Pickelhaube I believe) and this article just posted seems to prove the tale true...That would account for why so many WWI helmets have shown up in such odd places where the last owners had no relatives in the war. Ed
