M40 DD Police Helmet.

I haven't posted anything for a while so i thought i would share my grey M40 DD Police helmet. The shell is a Q, the paint is a slightly rough textured grey, it has the bordered Police decal. The liner is intialed with what looks like WO 87? It has a good maker marked chinstrap, G singer, Klattau 1941, i thought i had taken a pic but it was out of focus. I really rate these Police helmets. Tim.

Where did you buy it, was it from a dealer or a private purchase........
I always find the dealers over here a bit suspect regarding helmets.........

This one did come from a friend in the States a couple of years ago. Helmet collecting is in the UK is in a sorry state of affairs, i do pick up some decent helmets over here but not usually from dealers! Recently with the £ strong against the $ i have bought a few good helmets from the States and they've only been the same price as duffer repros UK dealers are peddling, one other thing the variety of helmets available in the US is much greater. My own thought on this is:
1. American service men picked up a lot more booty than us Brits and were encouraged to do so.
2. There were more US troops in Europe
3. The British Tommy did pick up some booty but a lot of the stuff ended up in the channel.
4. Basically the European economy had collapsed and most helmets were scraped or turned into pots and pans. While the American enconomy was booming, no need to melt down those old lids.
These are just my own thoughts and not proven through any reasearch.

I have heard stories of Brits having their booty confiscated by officers, military police etc. - whereas US troops seem to have no problems in this respect.
