Factory painted tropical steel helmet existed?

But, were those painted when the vehicles were? As in the field?

Yes, I believe these (pictured) were painted (en masse) in the field. I did not mean to suggest this was a rare photo of factory made tan helmets, rather I believe as you and others do that the so-called tropical helmets were reconditioned post war by the Czechs.
