    Kriegsmarine or Toned Heer M40??

Just picked up this SE64 M40 single decal. Batch number 334. Dark paint with some rough texture in areas. I am definitely not the first to ask this and certainly not the last, seeking opinions on whether this is a Kriegsmarine shield or just another Toned Heer Shield. I have done quite a bit of research and am aware that if the question need be asked, most likely it is a Heer decal, however I am not 100 % sure with this one. I have read that if silver appears beneath the gold that it means it is a Heer shield. Wondering if anyone can confirm and explain this. It seems like there is some silver showing beneath the gold but not sure if this is part of the decal or just the bare helmet metal beneath. In the first photos it appears to be more on the Toned Heer end, however up close the gold flake stands out to me which leads me to believe it could be KM. I know the decal isn't all there, but is it possible to identify if it is what is known as 'Big Foot'?

              Hi there mate,

IMO this is a Heer decal, but I'm sure others will comment. KM decals have a tiny but noticeable ridge around the eagle and swas. I have only handled a couple of KM helmets, and never owned one, but it is an unmistakable deep gold.

Not even close to being a KM.

Hohenstaufen, this is not in my opinion a bigfoot decal, looks like Pocher or ET style decal.

                      Regards, Nick.

Thanks guys! Can anyone elaborate as to why it is an obvious Heer? I am very grateful for the feedback.

                              Agreed. Definitely a toned Heer.

Actually they are quite easy to recognize.

KM helmets have a decal with birdie and swastika in deep gold, the gold should be really recognizable under a looking glass. The moment you see traces of white, like in this case, you most certainly have a Heer helmet.

Appr. 1/10 of all helmets with this type of decal was issued to the Kriegsmarine. In 9/10 cases you have a Heer helmet.

                              Cheers! Nice helmet
